Product of the Year in the Technology Industry 2021

This is my last column for 2021 and it’s been a year gone by. We think 2020 is a challenging year. But I think we can argue that in many respects this year isn’t exactly a breath of fresh air — and we’re still more than a week away for the world to surprise us.

Usually, at the end of the year, I try to choose a product that I am most impressed with or a product I find that I can’t live without, such as a Ooler bed heater/cooler that makes it easy for me to fall asleep.

However, this year, I will choose the product that minimizes the most problems that we encounter or the product that has entered the market and driven the wave of technology.

Consider the two candidates.

Contender One: Omniverse and Earth 2 by Nvidia

On the positive side, we have the advent of metaverse, a place where we can perform simulations, and where Nvidia has created omniverse, the quintessential toolkit for building metaverse. Currently, the metaverse is being overblown because it is not yet ready for widespread use. It is mainly for simulating and simulating the real world.

But the bigger thing Nvidia announced this year is the creation of Earth 2, a full super-reverse simulation of Earth that could be used to better define what would be the most effective way to mitigate climate change. Will it be carbon capture, switching from gas-powered to electric-powered transport, switching to synthetic meats instead of beef, or large-scale weather control being implemented in China?

Using Earth 2 to simulate the impact of the planet, we can better define how combining practices will have the greatest impact on protecting us from the climate damage we’ve caused for decades, and it will also give earlier warnings of catastrophic weather events such as Tornadoes and even earthquakes.

In addition, Earth 2 will help promote various building regulations so that our architectural works can better withstand the wrath of nature. I’m still annoyed that the old Disney/Monsanto Futuristic House built in the 1950s and never recreated is much better designed for today’s adverse weather conditions than any modern design being produced (these works of Blu Homes are close to returning).

Perhaps the use of Earth 2 to highlight what might happen if we don’t build responsibly for the future can convince us to take a more cautious path.

My hope is that this will motivate us to build fire-resistant structures in fire zones, better flood-proof structures in flood zones, and to do a better job of designing earthquake-proof structures in areas near fault lines. Earth 2 has the potential to not only mitigate climate change but also help us adapt to it so that weather phenomena don’t cause as much damage in the future as they did this year.

Second competitor: BlackBerry AtHoc

Between Covid and weather-related disasters, never before has the need to monitor employee health and safety been greater than it is today. Businesses around the world are experiencing severe staff shortages, meaning that each employee plays a much more important role in operations than in the past. This is above all the natural desire to take care of only our people.

BlackBerry AtHoc provides a management mechanism to notify and track at-risk employees and provide support when needed to those employees to keep them safe.

This tool can be applied to both commercial and government facilities, such as schools, to address the risks arising from protests or school shootings in order to better coordinate protection efforts.

I believe every company should use a product like AtHoc in these challenging times, both to secure their workforce and because it’s the right thing to do. Employees tend to reward loyalty with loyalty and make an effort to keep them safe should pay huge dividends.

Omniverse and Earth 2

Kindness to people often makes AtHoc the product of the year due to the difficulties we face, but fixing the majority of the problems that put these people at risk requires a global solution. The Nvidia Omniverse-based Earth 2 effort is one such effort.

If we can mitigate the widespread threat to our planet then our demand for a product like AtHoc won’t be immediate. So I chose nvidia omniverse because of its Earth 2 effort. It highlights the potential of the metaverse – which is clearly a thing by 2022 – to improve the world materially around us and eliminate much of the threat to humans that currently exists.

For these reasons, nvidia omniverse related to the creation of Earth 2 is my product of the year.

I’ll talk to you next in 2022. Stay safe and enjoy the holidays!
